Muscogee, Oklahoma: The Star Printery, Inc.: 1948: First Edition: Hard Cover: Near Fine: Fair: Jacket has a large stain near the upper corner of the front panel and smaller stain at the lower corner. Both areas of the jacket were stuck to the book, resulting in some paper loss on the inside of the jacket and some specks of paper residue on the front cover of the book. The jacket is protected now in a new mylar cover. A small eagle sticker or decal is affixed to the front pastedown endpaper and obscured by the jacket flap. HISTORICAL research on John Ross and the Cherokees and the Oklahoma Territory. The author writes in the first chapter that Park Hill, Oklahoma contains within its history "a large measure of the progress of the Cherokee Nation; the enlightment brought to the region there by New England missionaries in religious and secular affairs; the establishment of the printing press there and the subsequent production of millions of pages of the New Testament, hymn books, law and text books, and yearly almanacs, not only for the Cherokees, but also for the Choctaw Indians," all of which made the town a center of culture.
