Airman Lost in Africa, Birkby, Carel
1 Birkby, Carel
Airman Lost in Africa
South Africa: Dassie Books: 1957: Reprint: Soft Cover: Good: Wear to the spine, toning to the covers, and creasing to the lower corner of the front cover. Previous owner name inked at top of front cover. The binding is solid, tight, and square. A good, clean reading copy. Reprint of the 1937 Frederick Muller (London) original publication, with some changes by the author to shorten some of the chapters to fit the Dassie publication format. The author also admits to changing a few instances of wording to "fit the tense of to-day," but the main story remains the same as when it was written 20 years prior. A true adventure story of a flying mission in 1930s Africa to rescue a downed Swiss airman. Journalist Carel Birkby and pilot Bill Williamson set off from Capetown in a plane made of wood and wire and fly for a month over territory almost nobody had seen before. 176 pages, no photos.: 07905:
