Address of His Excellency John A. Andrew to the Two Branches of the Legislature of Massachusetts, January 6, 1865
Boston: Wright & Potter, State Printers: 1865: Soft Cover: Fair: The covers have a few small stains and are darkened with age, but in otherwise good condition. The binding is tight. The bottom edge and lower fore-edge have moisture staining, which carries into the interior of the book, most noticeably in the lower-center portion of the pages. The last half of the book has a large moisture stain in the outer margin of each page. Label affixed to the title page, which is printed "With the Respect of" followed by what appears to be a facsimile signature of John A. Andrew. From information found on Wikipedia: John Albion Andrew was the 25th governor of Massachusetts, holding that office from 1861-1866. He served as governor through most of the Civil War, leading his state's contributions to the Union's cause. He was also a driving force behind the creation of some of the first African American units in the United States Army, including the famous 54th Massachusetts Infantry. 140 pages, with Appendix, which includes data related to the Civil War, i.e., Regiment information, 20-page list of Officers who died (name, rank, date, remarks), and a list of General Officers and their fates. The last two mentioned lists are of potential interest to researchers and genealogists/family historians.: 07457:
