Dark, pebbled, flexible cloth covers, with gilt-stamped school insignia. 8 X 10.5 inches oblong. Rubbing wear, scratches, and moisture staining along the top edge and fore-edge of the first 5 or 6 pages and an upper rear-corner stain visible the last several pages. Original owner name and inscription in blue ink on the first blank page: Henry Werst/East Night High School/Cincinnati, Ohio/Most cherished pleasant memories from youth's best spent days! Dedicated to two classmates who died serving in World War I (The Great War). Other references to the Great War in the yearbook indicate that many students, as well as some faculty, from this and previous classes, served in the war and twelve paid the ultimate price. Numerous photographs of students, classes, and clubs. Of historical interest, there are five photographs from the first aerial photographs of Cincinnati, which were taken by former student, Sgt. Louis Hagemeyer, and included in this yearbook with his remarks and reminiscent article. Hagemeyer states he took these photographs on March 12, 1919, which may have been just weeks before this yearbook went to print. Likely, this is one of the earliest publications (perhaps the earliest?) of the first aerial photographs of Cincinnati. OCLC shows one copy of Hagemeyer's photographs at the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, 15 photographs in a 1919 album of unrelated postwar photographs in Cincinnati. Some history on East Night High School from the Withrow High School Alumni Association site: "East Night High School was in existence from 1911 - 1937 and classes were held in the East High School building and eventually the Withrow High School building. It was intended for students that could not attend day classes due to necessary working conditions, family care concerns or for any reason that daytime classes were not an option for individuals who wanted a high school education."
