Stated First Edition. Spotting or staining to the covers. Dust staining to the top edge of the page block. Several small areas of paper loss to the front endpapers. Previous owner bookplate on the front pastedown endpaper-the same owner Dobie inscribed the book to on the opposite front free endpaper. The dust jacket is price-clipped, but otherwise about fine with very minor wear. Inscribed by Dobie: "Inscribed for a sure-nuff lover of freedom - Harriet Griffin - J. Frank Dobie 6/28/45." Harriet Griffin was a Fort Worth educator, civic leader, and advocate for the elderly. A warmly inscribed copy of Dobie's reminiscence of his time in England as visiting American lecturer to Cambridge University from 1943-1944, during World War II.
