String-bound, oblong book with edge wear and short edge tears. Small piece of the rear cover missing near the string binding (see photo). 29 black and white photographs of the shrine at Toshogu, Japan. Some still have tissue guards, many do not. No date, circa early 1900s. Includes a color map: Ground Plan of the Nikko Shrines. Someone neatly penciled numbers and lines corresponding to the buildings, which are labeled in Japanese. Photograph captions are in English and Japanese. The shrine complex dates back to the 1600s, has more than a dozen buildings, and contains both Shinto and Buddhist elements.
