Mild edge wear, pencil notation on the front cover, and soiling to the rear cover. No indication of publisher and date, just the 13-page address inside the stapled covers. 5 X 7 inches. Possibly published later in the year of the address (1899) by the Church Club of Louisiana. H.R. Carson, the chaplain, served in the Spanish-American War, but did not see action in Cuba. His unit, The Second Louisiana Volunteer Infantry, started in Mobile, Alabama and then spent the remainder of the short war, less than eight months, drilling and training in Miami. Carson spoke at the Church Club of Louisiana's annual meeting January 25, 1899 and recounted his experiences with the men of his unit. Though they did not see battle, they suffered some of the effects of war with soldiers dying from disease and the rigors of their work. Carson spoke about what his role as chaplain entailed.
