Jacket has several edge tears and a moderate amount of edge wear. Protected now in a new Mylar archival sleeve. A collection of playground poetry used by African American children (circa early 1980s) in Houston, Texas, collected by Michels and White. They include counting rhymes, circle and handclap games, jump rope rhymes, names and nonsense verses, and taunts. Fifty-five pages, with Index of First Lines. Signed by all three involved with this book. Illustrator Jerry Pinkney's signature is on a label adhered to the half-title page under the signatures of Michels and White. Pinkney is an award-winning illustrator who designed the Martin Luther King, Jr. and Harriet Tubman postage stamps for the United States Postal Service Black Heritage Commemorative Series. 53 pages with Index of First Lines. Rare with the three signatures.
