Dr. Jack Evans, gospel preacher and president of the Southwestern Christian College in Terrell, Texas asserts in the debate that the New Testament church began on the first Pentecost after the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Mr. Vernon L. Barr, a leading Missionary Baptist preacher and pastor of the Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, argues that the New Testament church was in existence during the personal ministry of Christ--before the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ--and that the Missionary Baptist church is that New Testament church.
