Written and illustrated by Gleb Botkin, son of the Tsar's physician for the children of the Russian Imperial family (Romanovs) when they were imprisoned following the 1917 Revolution, these stories, arranged in two 'Books,' feature the adventures of a bear trying to fend off a revolutionary band of monkeys and restore an imprisoned monarch to his throne. BOOK I is the Sacred Truth of the History of the Times of the Great Monkey Revolution. BOOK II is The Restoration of Monarchy on Finch Island After the Failure of the Monkey Revolution. When Tsar Nicholas II, members of his family, and Botkin's father were murdered following the Revolution, Gleb Botkin fled to Japan, smuggling his stories and illustrations with him. This book marks their first publication and includes photographs and historical information. Following a Foreword by Greg King and Introduction by Botkin's daughter are 86 pages of stories comprising the two Books, lavishly illustrated, and a Book III, or portfolio of Botkin's other paintings.
