Rare 1960s vintage restaurant menu from Arturo's in Nuevo Progreso, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Single sheet, light green paper with dark green and red lettering, folded once. Approximately 9 X 12, folded. Acquired with other menus from the early 1960s. That and the very low prices confirm the time period. It's been very well preserved in excellent condition all these years. The back of the menu has "A Word from Arturo" and a place to address and stamp the menu to mail to friends. Arturo's opened its doors in 1956 as the first restaurant in Nuevo Progreso and it's still going strong. It's a generational favorite among Texans and wintering retirees in the Rio Grande Valley border towns. A sampling of Arturo's diverse selection of dishes from this menu: Lobster Newburg $3.50, Frog Legs Provencale Jacquet $2.50, Stuffed Wild Duck $2.00, Carne Asada Tampiquena $3.00, Cabrito $2.00. Nothing mentioned from their new bar to wash the meal down with, so there may have been a separate menu for margaritas, beer, etc.
