Exhibition catalog for the Soviet Space exhibit at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, June 29, 1991 to January 1, 1992. Foreword by Alexei Leonov, Deputy Head of Flight and Space Training, Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center. Also includes messages from Soviet Space Organizing Committee Co-Chairs, James L. Ervin and Carol Beech; Texas Governor Ann Richards; Fort Worth Mayor Kay Granger; U.S.S.R. Ambassador to the United States, Viktor Komplektov; and GLAVKOSMOS Chairman, Alexander Dunaev. A history of the Soviet Space program is presented in this exhibit, from early Soviet rocketry to plans and testing of a Soviet space shuttle and international cooperation in space. The significance and importance of the exhibit can be summarized from the concluding remarks in the book's Prologue by Jay Miller: "This exhibit, Soviet Space, represents the willingness and first tentative steps to toward cosmic exploration. It represents with considerable clarity, both the dreams and the realities of a world that might be...a world of cooperation rather than confrontation, hope rather than despair, and feast rather than famine. In a world with skewed social priorities and ever increasing chaos, exploration of the cosmos is our greatest hope; the alternative is simply too terrifying to contemplate."
